#SAFEbears

At LVISD, we are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for the students, faculty, staff, and visitors on our campuses. In order to support that commitment, we have a comprehensive emergency operations plan that addresses emergency mitigation/prevention, preparedness, response, and recovery procedures relevant to natural and human-caused disasters.

The plan is updated annually, reviewed by staff as well as emergency response personnel, and shared with campus and department staff, and with other individuals who may have a role in the event of an emergency. The plan prepares our staff and students for action and establishes teams, chains of command, and specific steps to take in an emergency situation. We are ready to provide for the safety and security of your children and others if the need ever arises.

Implementation of the Standard Response Protocol (SRP), which allows common language to be used when a specific campus has to utilize a protective action in the event of an emergency.  As part of the plan, each campus practices fire evacuation, lockdown, lockout, shelter in place, hold and ALICE drills throughout the year. This allows our district administrators to be sure that faculty/staff and students know the correct procedures in the event of an emergency.

A proactive assessment process that uses an evidence-based approach for identifying individuals who may pose a threat and for providing interventions before an incident occurs.

GOALS

This culture embraces a strong preparedness strategy that focuses on preventing and preparing for emergencies of all kinds that could affect the district. It is designed to ensure an effective and efficient response and recovery.

Because no two schools or district facilities are the same, no generic plan or manual will provide all of the necessary information to mitigate the effects of every situation. As such, at all times, safety accountability remains the foremost concern for the district and its stakeholders. This plan identifies relationships, responsibilities, and general protocol so that departments and campuses can implement unique school-centered emergency management strategies.

The overall goal of the La Vernia Independent School District is to protect lives, mitigate the effects of a disaster, be prepared to respond to emergencies promptly and properly, and restore normal services as quickly as possible.
